I was put onto this article by Tom Cheetham's blog:

My favourite bit:

This was after someone called Dave Hickey, when asked what the big issue of the day (in the 1990s) was, replied, simply, 'beauty'.
Yes, I feel just this sort of embarrassment when announcing the subtitle of my book, 'the Work of Art that is Physics'. Beauty isn't mentioned directly, but 'Work of Art'--I ask you, what's that doing here?
